For Vikki

Vikki wanted to know what sugar alcohol was used in these, so here is the ingredients list for PhillySwirl sugar free ice cream. It looks like the sugar alcohol used is erythritol. It also contains ace-K sweetener ... I'm not entirely sure what that is, but since Wikipedia says it is as sweet as aspartame, I'm assuming it is NOT aspartame. Grrr, I hate aspartame.

Peanut/Tree nut free, Dairy Free, Egg free, Soy Free, Gluten Free

Main Ingredients: Water, Sorbitol, erythritol, polydextrose, glycerine, Natural and Artificial Flavorings, *Strawberry Concentrate, *Lemon Concentrate, *Orange Concentrate, pectin, xanthan gum, guar gum, ascorbic acid, sucrulose, acesulfame-K (sweeteners), Red # 40, Yellow # 5 and 6, Blue # 1.

  1. Ace-K is another of the major sweeteners on the market like splenda. It's marketed under the name Sweet One. You've probably seen it whether you've bought it or not. It's used with sucralose quite often, such as in the Splenda sweetened Diet Cokes.

Thank you so much for posting this, I'm not a huge fan of sorbitol either, it's another one of those that spikes blood sugars and causes the tummy troubles if consumed in more than tiny amounts. It also has polydextrose which can cause gastro issues.

Of course everyone is different and because they cause me issues they may be fine for you. And sorbitol is much better than maltitol.
    Thanks again.
